Flipkart says it sold 10 lakh products in 10 hours in whopping sale

E-commerce giant Flipkart, which threw open a mega five-day sale starting Monday night, announced that it had sold about 10 lakh products within ten hours. The company added that it had 6 million page visits from across the country and an average of 25 items being sold per second. These numbers, staggering as they are, will be good news for Flipkart executives as they look to make the transition to an app-only interface. The sale, titled ‘The Big Billion Days’, was only available on app. Mukesh Bansal, head of Flipkart, said that the company saw installation of the app on over 1.6 million devices in the last 2 days.

“We are extremely thrilled to see customers from across geographies shop with us,” he said. Among the metro cities, people in Bengaluru, Delhi and Chennai were most enthusiastic about the offer. While fashion products would come under the offer bracket on all five days, categories like books, electronics, home appliances and mobile accessories are only available on specific days. The company said that men’s clothing and accessories were the most popular products in the offer. With the festival season approaching, major e-commerce companies have gone on a competition overdrive with enticing offers for customers. Amazon, which has launched the ‘Great Indian Festive Sale’, gives additional cashback on select bank cards on its app. It’s website proudly proclaims up to 50% off on electronic items and 70% off on fashion products. Flipkart’s direct competitor Snapdeal, which raised almost $500 million in a new round of funding in August, does not want to miss out on the offer game. Diwali may still be a month away, but Snapdeal lets you purchase right away with mega discounts on electronic items and fashion products.
