New Delhi: In order to give a push to greener homes, the government is considering launching a scheme that would offer cheaper loans and lower registration fee for people who opt for greener residential units.

As per government sources, the proposal is a part of ongoing discussions that the government is holding about framing 'Energy Conservation Building Code for Residential Sector (ECBC-R),' following the code for government and commercial buildings that was framed in 2007.

Power, coal and renewable energy minister Piyush Goyal will release the refreshed version of Energy Conservation Building Code-2017 (ECBC-2017) today, highlighting a huge leap that the Indian realty would take in the step of a greener tomorrow.

Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), an outfit under the power ministry, is tasked with the responsibility of working on a scheme that would incentivise new, more energy-efficient homes, thus lowering the requirement of utilities for lighting and cooling energy.

Other than this, another proposal to offer incentives to existing residential properties turning more energy efficient is also being considered.

ECBC-R will also give a push to the government's 'Make in India' campaign, given that it would raise the demand for energy efficient household equipment and other services.
